You'd have to better define "kit" to get the best answer to steer you in the right direction.

I'm assuming that you used malt extract to make your beer. As Mike P. sugested, if you used sugar as one of your primary fermentables, that'll leave you with a mighty wimpy beer.

Try a beefier malt extract, or try more of it at once. Munton and Fison makes malt extract that seems to have a higher yield of nonfermentabel sugars in it than some other manufacturers, so try that malt next time. Also, never use less than 6.6 pounds of extract - one of those five pound cans will not do.
